One of my favorite memories of my daughter’s early years is the day she wanted me to roller skate with her and I told her that I had never learned how. She promptly turned to me and asked “Why Mommy? Didn’t they have roller skates when you were a little girl?” I’ve reminded her of that comment throughout the years and we have laughed about it each time. The other day she was helping me clean out a closet and we came across some boxes of mementos from my teenage years. When she came across an old masquerade mask she couldn’t believe that I had once attended the Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans. I had to dig around and find photos to prove my attendance. She was shocked to me and my best friend laughing with dozens of strands of beads around our necks. Apparently I wasn’t supposed to have a life before getting married and having children.
